Hi Jessica, Love your website. Its nice to see a celebrity who does’nt mind sharing her life to the public? you not scared that people will know too much about you? or you want people to think that you are who you are and you have nothing to hide? or is it a publicity stunt? who knows huh? Its really nice that you love animals and sports – me too! all my life, i used to kick and tortue animals/insects/reptiles but since i bought a female puppy lab 6 months ago, she changed my life. dogs better than human hor? Just startled that a chio celeb who has everything in the world be so down to earth and share her life in a blog. good luck and see you on tv!
Hi Alex!
Well, I don’t see why I should “hide” anything from the public – I’m just as normal as anyone on the street! Blogging is just another way to diary my life for my friends & myself. I’ve been an animal lover since I could understand the world around me and I’m really glad that you’ve come around to start to love animals as well! But I understand that guys always have this morbid fascination of torturing living things when they’re boys right? My brothers were like that and I’ve always tried to stop them. I’ve pretty much stayed true to myself and stuck to the things I love – animals, nature, sports, acting. 🙂 Do visit my blog more often for updates!
Hi Ms Jessica!
I watched a rerun of Miss Universe 07 and heard about your passion for denvironemtal conservation. I think its amazing that we have someone within Singapore that has engaged an opportunity such as MSU to tell the world about preserving and sustaining Mother Nature. Do you have plans to further that platform and help Singapore or anyone else for that matter be more aware of environmental conservation?
Plus, you mentioned that you had a weight problem when you were younger? Can you describe your experiences and how you manage to overcome them? I think that it would inspire many young teens to overcome their body issues and enahance their self esteem!
Hi Serene!
I’ve been using my MSU platform to raise awareness of the conservation of our environment by giving talks in schools and doing a short film. The short film is for the National Environment Agency of Singapore which shows the importance of reducing the use of electricity & saving water. This film is shown in schools locally. Also, I’ve led hundreds of students from Singapore to help clean up the river at Sungei Tebrau in Johor, Malaysia. I believe in creating this awareness with the youths as they are our future leaders.
I’m still active with the Rotary Club in Singapore helpng them out whenever I can even though I’ve fufilled my role as a Youth Ambassador with them. I hope to continue this effort and there is an upcoming project to lead students to Malaysia to release the newly hatched turtles! I’m an animal lover and I believe that through this experience, other students will grow to be more loving to animals. They are a crucial part of our environment as well and it saddens me that so many species are endangered in the wild and coming to extinction. I hope that people can slow down their pace once in a while and appreciate Mother Nature and what we have around us more.
Yes, I was highly overweight when I was in Primary school. weighing in at 64kg at 1.60m tall. For a number of years, I was enlisted automatically into TAF (Trim & Fitness) Club which is MOE’s way of “helping” obese children. It wasn’t easy to keep a high self esteem as I was constantly mocked at and never thought myself as good looking. Children can be the most judgemental physically without knowing it. The fat kid in school is never the popular one. A lot of people don’t realise it unless they’ve experienced it 1st hand like myself when I was young. That is why I can empathise with others easily as I didn’t have it good all my life. I must admit that I remember crying in the bathroom because of the insults and mocking I had from the other children. However, a classmate of mine didn’t judge me as much as she was older (foreign student) and more mature. She even told me straight up that I am pretty, but only a bit more chubby. That boosted my morale and made me determined to loose weight.
Luckily, I love food too much to go on a diet, so I went the sensible way and exercised by joining more ECAs and being very active during the holidays. Went ice skating, cycling, roller blading with friends. So it helps that you’re enjoying what you’re doing so it makes exercise less imposed. The moral of the story is – to those suffering the same problem as I did, is to find a truly good friend who will not judge you on your appearance but encourage you and help you along the way to make yourself a better & healthier person! This friend canbe from school, your sibling or anyone that believes in you!
Hello Jessica,
I chanced upon an article in an old copy of the 8 Days sometime last year(?). It featured a Jessica Tan, who had won a Ms Universe comp and on reading further found that she had attended Nan Chiau Pr. After I looked up for more info on website, it confirmed that it was the Jessica whom I taught years ago once I saw your Chinese name. Don’t know if you recall your Pre-Primary school days at NCHS? Still have the class photo with your classmates and Chen Lao Shi. Glad to know that you are doing well.
Regards,
Ms Loh aka Mrs Leong
Hi Ms Loh!!!!
Omigod! Can’t believe u can actually recognize me n manage to trace that I was ur student?! I look so different in primary school – fat, Tom boyish & really tan!
I remember u! U had short hair right? And taught me in primary 4 I think? Can’t really remember the subject tho – English/math/science? All I remember that u’re always cheery & smily!
Yes, I remember 陈老师 – my poor Chinese & fear of Chinese teachers make them etched in my memory… Lol!
How have u been? R u still teaching?
XOXO
Jessica
HI again Jessica,
Actually, I only remember teaching you in the Pre-Pri class when you wore the light-blue uniform. If at most till Pr 2. I left NC in 1991 and went over to Temasek Pr where I still am. I still remember the dear little girl that you were then and prob still is. Do you still keep in contact with the others ?- there was a Gillian Wu( Goh), Luo Xinmin, Mark and remember Daniel. Must be wondering how I know all the names – I wrote the names of you guys on the photo which I dug out not too long ago – actually to show off to my colleagues that I once taught you. How are your Aunt and Uncle Chuan? Hope they are keeping well. Never thought I would meet up with any of my ex-pupils after all these years. Still do think about the pupils from Nan Chiau from time to time.Really good to hear from you.
Ciao,
Louisa L
Hello Mrs Leong/ Ms Loh!
My mum remembers u vividly when I asked her about you the other day. I guess she’ll remember my teachers more when I’m in pre primary! The thing I remember most when I was in NC pre primary was when 陈老师 was so stunned that I told her that at the age of 6 I’ve never spoken Mandarin nor know how to write my Chinese name! LOL!
I seem to remember u teaching me in lower primary tho but vaguely. Gillian & Xinmin were my classmates till primary 6. I don’t remember the boys tho’ they might have trAnsferred to a different primary school.
My primary 6 class do organise gatherings once every 1 or 2 years so that’s when we really catch up! Most of us went to different sec schools after PSLE and only a few of them kept in close contact.
It’s great feeling catching up with you Ms Loh! Never did I expect to get in contact with my kidergarten teacher. What are u teaching now at Temasek Primary?
Aunt & Uncle Chuan are doing well. Uncle Chuan is still teaching at Nan Chiau & Aunt is teaching part time to spend more time taking care of their daughter.
Great to find out so much more about my kidergarten days!
Cheers,
Jessica
Hi Jessica,
Please ignore the earlier comment that I left on The Nakata post in your main page of this blog. I realised that I made a mistake with one of the numbers in the year. =) I remember you from the 2007 Miss Singapore Universe Beauty Pageant and I would like to say that you write as elegantly as you look. Please keep blogging. And perhaps you can visit my blog as well. Thank you.
Warm Regards,
Dan.
