Mika’s been with me for about a year now and she’s 17months old! She still behaves like a puppy, just stronger & bigger! I was looking back at her photos when she first came home with me and she was soooo cute & small!
She’s a big girl now!
Time flies huh?

Hey Jess
Mika has the most expressive eyes….!!!
Hi Alvin,
Yes she does! I hate it when she begs with those eyes…. makes me want to give in to her but I can’t cos I don’t wanna spoil her! My Mum spoils her already so I must be the firm one! Heheh…
she’s so cute, just like Vivo =)
Hi Rina!
Yea! Vivo’s really cute! Where did U buy him from? 🙂 Pity U had to give him away…
Hi Jessica
My children really love a Shiba Inu. They are sooooo cute!
May I know where did you get yours from and how much is it?
Thanks for writing back!
Julie
hi Julie,
Shibas are real darlings! But usually a bit shy and reserved, so if you’re looking for one for your children, do look for a pup who’s more sociable and outgoing (generally males). My Mika is really shy and runs away from children who always get excited when they see her, hence not very children friendly! I got mine from Soo Kee Kennels at Balestier Rd, near Thomson Medical Centre. They’re a responsible pet shop which brings in quality dogs, so they’re a bit more expensive compared to other places. Mika cost me 4.5K as she came with a certificate. They take very good care of the puppies they bring in, treating them like their own and toilet train them to pee in newspapers. Also, they may seem a lil’ “snobbish” initially as they don’t really want everybody that walk into the shop to touch their dogs cos of health and hygiene reasons, but when U are a genuine buyer, they will take the puppies out and let U play and mingle with them. I actually do support their way of selling the puppies because they really do treat them like “children” looking for a good parent to “adopt” them. If U get a male from there let me know! Cos I wanted to get another male from them to breed but it’s costly and my mum is not keen on me getting another male just to breed… 😛

Hi Jess
Like my Sassy, they know how to put those doleful eyes of theirs to good use. Sassy likes nothing more than to curl up on the sofa next to my wife, sometimes even putting her head on my wife’s lap. Super manja!!
Does Mika go all soft when u make her do something that she does not wanna do? Sassy knows and will go all soft, making it very difficult to carry her.
Ah…for the love of dogs….
Alvin
Hi Alvin,
Mika’s not the manja kind so she doesn’t sleep on my lap – I’ve to catch her, carry her and place her on my lap and she will sit there for at most 5-10min then she runs off! But she does lean against my calf when I’m on the couch lounging and she falls asleep there! Super cute! Mika has tons of attitude – when I wanna make her do something she doesn’t like, she knows and runs away and hide making it very difficult for me to catch her! Most recent example was last night!
Brought her down for her night pee pee b4 she sleeps and I decided to let her off the leash walking back within my condo. And she’s usually really good off the leash and will just follow me or runs after me when I call her. But last night she decided to be naughty and refused to go home! When I walked towards her to leash her and bring her home, she knew and darted off into the unlit paths flanking my condo. I took more than half an hour chasing her around my condo around the paths and trying my best not to scream at her cos it was at night and didn’t want to disturb my neighbours. Until she was more tired and finally gave in to me not so willingly. Silly Mika! So naughty that makes me really angry but yet still so cute!
I’m emotionally confused because of her!
Your Mika is REALLY Very cute la! haha… I love dogs but my mum just don’t want me to keep dog.. coz she is afraid that she might end up taking care of it and not me taking care of it. Shibas’ fur is so soft and nice… really tempt me alot to adopt a dog next time! haha! =D
This kind of dog will not just recognise one owner only right? a family dog ?
Thank you Jervynn!
Mika is really cute but she’s very shy & timid! So because of that, she does only recognise one owner. But generally Shibas do only recognise their own owner as they are not entirely socialble creatures, unlike jack russells or retrievers. The only problem U get from Shibas is that most of them can’t be let off the leash as they will see something like a bird, lizard or mouse & off they go! And may only come back many days later. Shibas are highly intelligent, so even when a stranger calls them by their name, they will be suspicious and cautious. However, I’ve trained Mika to be good off the leash and she follows me closely without her leash. This is very rare. As I’ve met other Shiba owners and their Shibas won’t follow them around like Mika and usually have to keep a close eye on them to catch them when they wander off. I’ve a very close bond with Mika as you can tell. 🙂
Just to warn you, if you’re interested in getting a Shiba as your 1st doggie, it will be a challenge as they’re more difficult to train & sometimes too intelligent for their own good (making them rebellious & stubborn).

Hi Jessica,
Thanks so much for the info! =D
Can see that Mika treats you like her mummy(hahaha) and scared of losing her way if she runs off due to curiosity of the surrounding. Mika is fortunate to meet a responsible and patience owner like you! Some dog owners just want to have a ‘feel’ of keeping pets and lose interest very soon after some time. And that’s how abandoned dogs came about. *sian*
Ok, I shall find out more about the behaviors and nature of different kind of doggies before deciding on which breed to get in the future.
Looking fwd to the updates on Mika’s section! hee… =)
Hi Jervynn,
Yes I’m Mika’s mummy! And she’s my puppy! Hee… Sometimes when I leave her in my mum’s care when I’m busy she really misses me! There was once I dropped by to visit her but didn’t take her home, my mum said she howled & whined as if she was so sad. It breaks my heart to hear that but puts a smile on my face as well as it shows she really loves me back. 🙂
I’ll post more pics of cute lil fluffy Mika soon!
XOXO
