I went to the gala premiere of the movie, Up, last Sunday at The Cathay and expected it to be a cutesy G rated movie with a normal and predictable storyline, but it totally exceeded my expectations and BLEW me away! no pun intended! ๐
It was entertaining, highly emotional when U get more & more attached to each character & loads of fun! It make me want to fly in that house lifted by balloons! And I’ve always loved balloons! (Just afraid of them suddenly bursting) Wanted to take those balloons they were giving away after the movie but was a bit shy to do so… cos only kids took them & I’m no longer a kid! ๐
Do go and watch it with your family, friends and loved ones! For an animation film, I would rate it 8/10.
XOXO

Hi Jess
Is it anything like the Japanese animated movie, Howl’s Moving Castle? (If you have seen that one…)
This weekend is Harry Potter first for my wife and I.
hi Alvin,
yup! I watched Howl’s Moving Castle like 3 or more times! Love that! I’ve pretty much watched most of animation movies.
Up is a bit like HMC but yet very different cos the storyline is totally diff. Japanese anime generally have very adult-ish themes and warped “gods” & witches. Whereas for Up it’s more Disney like feel good movie. But yet with a great sense of adventure. What I love is that they did this scene that took 10min of the movie only to make U really sad to the brink of tears and that’s only the beginning of the show when U don’t really engage the characters yet. It has tons of humour, fun, adventure & good values in the movie.
Watched Harry Potter, don’t like it as much as the previous few.
Didn’t know this show came out already! I remember I was in the cinema watching a movie and saw the trailer on this and wanted to watch it! Good to hear that it’s a good show, so I hope I can catch it soon! ๐ Btw, I love balloons but am afraid of them when they look like they’re about to burst or something too! And you know, there’s this piercing sound that balloons make when you try to tie them… scary!
hi Janyssa!
I hate that squeaky sound of balloons too!!! The show is not out yet. Think it’s coming out in August and this time the Gala Premiere is quite early!
U have to watch it, I might watch it in 3D again! ๐
XOXO
Hey Jess
My wife has the entire collection of animated movies by Hayao Miyasaki and they are all great viewing! Will watch UP when it comes.
It is Harry Potter this Friday night…..
Hey Alvin,
Did U enjoy Harry Potter?
I too have the Hayao Miyasaki anime collection! Bought it a few years back! ๐ I’ve a few favs, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Totoro, Spirited Away, The Cat Returns & Grave of the Fireflies. ๐
Hi Jess
Harry Potter was ok for the entertainment value. The storyline……well….I did not read the book so I was ok I guess. I was enjoying more of the food and seat….(Gold Class). And also spoilt by some who think that the cinema is a playground for their children.
My fav Hayao anime is Spirited Away.
Hi Alvin,
I just got back from Tioman again! Had a few days off so decided to go back there to dive a lil more b4 we do our advance open water. How’s GOld Class? I’ve never tried it out b4. I don’t like this Harry Potter at all, hopefully the next one’s better. Now they’re just doing this for the fan base. Spirited Away is wonderful!!! Love the dragon!
Hey Jess
So shiok! All need a break every now and then. Now I tahan till December….haha.
Gold Class is great, esp at Vivocity. My wife and I normally go for the movies that are longer than two hours. Then we order the set meal and juz sit back and enjoy. You should try it……once you have tried it, the normal seats juz dun seem to cut it. However, we make sure that we go Gold Class only if the movie is good, or if the movie is too long as my back can’t take sitting straight up for too long.
Cheers!
Alvin
