Mika is my dear little puppy who is born on 8 February 2008 in a little place called Sherae Kennels in Perth, Western Australia. She is a Red colour Shiba Inu – the smallest of the 6 distinct breeds of dogs from Japan. Direct translation of the Japanese word Shiba Inu means “Little Brushwood Dog”. What’s interesting to know is that a Shiba Inu is one of the oldest breeds of dogs dating back to 3rd Century BC!
Her name Mika also means “lovely fragrance” in Japanese, or “pure” in Malay.
Mika at 5 months
Dear little Mika joined my family on 13 July 2008 as a 5 month old puppy! She was really shy and timid when I first brought her to her new home. Though she is really shy to humans, she loves the company of other dogs! Mika is also extremely intelligent! Learning all her basic commands within a few days without being sent to a obedience school!
She is really gentle and endearing and loves to communicate with her love ones through weird sneezes, howls, high pitched whines and half barks. She hardly barks like a regular dog and you can count yourself very lucky to hear her bark as it is a very rare occurrence!
Mika is the cousin of the larger Akita featured in the movie Hachiko. Many a times when Mika is out for walks or play, people always mistake her as a little fox. Some even call her “little foxy!”.
Here’s some recent random photos of my lovely Mika taken with my iPhone!
